Navigate Global Packaging Labelling With Confidence: Get Ready for 2026 with Lorax EPI
by Siân Lee at 13:34 in Environmental, Packaging, Circular Economy, Emerging

I first joined Lorax EPI as an Environmental Policy Analyst in 2023, after specialising in Environmental Law and UK Waste Policy reform at University. For the past five years, my work and research have centred on a diversity of waste legislation and policy. As an Environmental Compliance Consultant at Lorax EPI, I now use my legal knowledge to support global brands in navigating complex Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements around the globe.

My current role in the consulting team is extremely varied, from EPR compliance for packaging, WEEE, batteries and textiles, to compliance with EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation) and the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation).

I additionally advise brands on global environmental labelling compliance. This topic has led me to work closely alongside a variety of brands, from global cosmetic brands to food and beverage retailers. Whilst global brands may each possess diverse product portfolios, one commonality remains. To ensure continued market access, brands must respond proactively (not reactively) to labelling and environmental claim legislation. At Lorax EPI, we help brands on this journey.

Why Packaging Labelling Matters: Reflections in a Changing Regulatory Landscape

Packaging labelling requirements often constitute a hidden market access condition. Whilst at first labelling compliance may seem simple to achieve; the global picture of packaging labelling requirements is far from harmonised. Fragmentation per region may mean brands have to contend with multiple requirements or environmental claim restrictions for a single packaging format.

As Europe transitions towards a harmonised approach to waste sortation labelling as a direct consequence of the PPWR, other regions may experience the opposite. For example, packaging labelling requirements in APAC remain highly fragmented, with some markets choosing to enforce highly granular sortation labelling whilst others may only require basic material identification coding.

As changes to any packaging format can be costly, businesses need timely guidance to stay ahead and avoid the risk of surplus stock labelled with unnecessary, prohibited or inaccurate symbols. That's where Lorax EPI comes in.

Our Consulting Expertise: Labelling Solutions

At Lorax EPI, we offer various solutions to help your organisation approach global packaging labelling with confidence. We offer a variety of consulting support options which can be customisable depending on the needs of your organisation and the markets in which you operate. Here's how we can help:

1. Global Regulatory Labelling Matrix

We decode requirements across global jurisdictions, from Europe to APAC, MEA and the US. Our global matrix consolidates mandatory and voluntary labelling rules, ensuring your packaging meets national and regional requirements.

2. Packaging Format Artwork Analysis

Every brand portfolio is unique. We offer tailored solutions that provide analysis per packaging format to equip you with the latest regulatory insights. If you operate globally, the precise symbols you may be required to display can vary depending on packaging material and characteristics. You may also no longer need to display certain symbols which have now become obsolete based on national or regional legislation.

3. On-call: Future-Proofing for PPWR

Our on-call support can help you navigate upcoming changes to PPWR labelling rules – by answering any questions you may have on upcoming changes.
